AERIAL: this is the adjective used in many ancient writings to describe honey, indicating the firm belief that honey descended from the heavens and came to rest on flowers, where it was then collected by bees.

MATTHEW: the evangelist Matthew in the Gospel according to Matthew 3:4 describes John the Baptist eating a meal of wild honey and locusts in the desert. The same description is taken up by Dante in Purgatory (XXII,151) “Locusts and honey were the food whereon/ the Baptist in the lonely desert fed”.
