The honey supply chain
As nature demands

Where honey comes from
Honey is a natural product of plant origin: it’s the food that bees produce from flower nectar and for thousands of years it was the only available source of concentrated sugar. Honey is composed of approximately 18% water and, in addition to mineral salts, vitamins and enzymes, it contains over 80% sugars, mainly fructose and glucose. Honey is a natural product that doesn’t need any chemical processes or the addition of any other substances before it can be consumed and, unlike other sugars, its simple structure makes it a highly digestible foodstuff that provides the human body with readily available energy.
From flower to jar
As Italy’s leading honey supply chain, with more than 600 beekeepers and 100,000 hives, we safeguard more than 5 billion bees, nurture the biodiversity of our land and guarantee delicious, traced, high quality products. We believe in what we do and promote an alternative approach to nutrition and lifestyles, which looks to the future and safeguards the environment and bees.
Meticulous selection
Of the beekeepers who choose to join our cooperative, and of their products. Mielizia selects only beekeepers who work by traditional, consolidated methods, who devote great care to the health of their bees and are fastidious about the production and storage of their products, guaranteeing absolute freshness. Being a cooperative also means feeling part of a team, a “superorganism”, just like the hive itself.
We perform constant, strict analytical controls on bee products, evaluating their organoleptic, chemical and botanical characteristics and checking their geographical origin.
Modernity and tradition
We have a modern in-house laboratory and work in partnership with specialised external laboratories that constantly test products. Our honey is never pasteurised before packing. Honey is never allowed to exceed 40 °C, the maximum temperature found inside the hive, to preserve its original flavour, aroma and nutritional properties.
From flower to jar
MIELIZIA honey, packed with loving care and respect for the product, is the end result of a vast amount of work, performed first and foremost by the bees, the wonderful insects we tend and work with every day. We, the beekeepers, are like shepherds, looking after these wonderful creatures and creating the best conditions for their survival. In exchange, the bees give us honey, a real treasure from the hive, which must be conserved with care. We only take the surplus honey, not needed by the bee families, from the super frame!
Honey is brought from all the regions of Italy where our beekeepers place their hives to our facility at Monterenzio, near Bologna, where it’s stored, carefully analysed, packed and prepared for distribution. Our team works, like a large hive, to give you better and better honey.
Products
They originate from a gentle production process that conserves their original organoleptic and nutritional properties, just as nature intended, so the end products have all the typical fragrances and flavours of each area of origin.
