Mission
To safeguard bees and live in harmony with the planet
Home / We, the Mielizia People / Mission
Combining the Italian words for honey (miele) and delight (delizia), we coined the name Mielizia, the historic brand representing the beekeepers of CONAPI (Consorzio Nazionale Apicoltori), the Italian National Consortium of Beekeepers.
As a major producers’ cooperative, we take great pride in our work of safeguarding the wellbeing of bees and promoting our beekeepers’ products. We represent the only complete honey supply chain in Italy, and with more than 100,000 hives we’re also the largest producer of organic honey in Europe. Our business operations and approach to the national and international markets are based on direct relationships, bonds between people, enthusiasm and shared choices. At Conapi we’re committed to nurturing and multiplying biodiversity.
Standing up for bees
As they buzz about effortlessly, with them bees carry life – pollen – from flower to flower, allowing plants to reproduce and survive. These wonderful insects work to pass on their most precious asset, their hive, to future generations. And yet today bees, like other pollinators, are disappearing, and this is a threat to the future of our Planet. More than 90% of all wild plants and about 80% of the crops we rely on for our food depend on bees. Fruit, vegetables, fodder, medicinal herbs and industrial crops like cotton and soybeans: countless crops would cease to exist without pollination.
What’s more, through what they do bees help to keep biodiversity, the variety of species on Earth, alive.
This is why bees have become a symbol of awareness of the need to protect threatened ecosystems. This image is often used to convey a general concern for the environment. Here at Mielizia, we take a genuine stand by working to defend these wonderful insects every day. Beekeepers live in a special symbiosis with their bees: watching them, listening to them and learning to understand them. As a result, they establish a deep bond with their bees and can explain their needs to others. The human race may be responsible for the current decline in bee numbers worldwide, but in beekeepers it also includes the people who can preserve them from extinction.
Beekeepers
We work alongside and care for our bees, creating the best conditions for their welfare. We were among the first in Italy to adopt organic production techniques, and are currently the leading European producers of organic honey. Our organisation now comprises more than 600 beekeepers, united by our passion for bees and Italian honey. We protect the wellbeing of more than 5 billion bees and provide pollination for a vast area of Italy.
