Pollen
Vegetable protein
Bee pollen consists of flower pollen painstakingly collected by bees and is the main source of protein in their diet. There are as many types of pollen as there are of flowers in the natural world. The Mielizia range includes both fresh pollen, in handy trays packed under controlled atmosphere, and dehumidified pollen, supplied in glass jars, to meet people’s different needs and habits in use of this food.
Both formats conserve the product’s organoleptic and nutritional properties intact. Pollen is considered an excellent food, especially for vegetarians, whose diet tends to lack proteins. Pollen is rich in plant proteins and the most important essential amino acids, indispensable for our health. Laboratory tests show that 100 grams of pollen contain around 20 grams of protein. This is an impressive amount, considering that the same weight of sea bass and cod contains 16.5 and 15.6 grams of protein respectively, while fillet of beef contains 20.5 grams.
Pollen can be eaten on its own (about 10 g) or added to yoghurt, fruit salad, fruit juice, milk, honey or water at room temperature. Its flowery aroma also makes it an excellent ingredient for original culinary combinations.
